About Me

TR4.jpg

Are you suffering from spinal related pain? Dr. Rogers is California’s leading neck and back specialist.

Dr. Rogers is a fellowship-trained board certified orthopedic doctor and surgeon who specializes in spine care and surgery. She first earned a master's degree in physical therapy before completing her medical degree. Having both degrees gives her an in-depth perspective that is rare among spine doctors. From that vantage point, she has a unique ability to determine in each case whether non-surgical options or minimally invasive spine surgery would help the most.

As a lifelong athlete, Dr. Rogers naturally developed a passion for restoring people to health and helping them get back to doing what they love. Her physical therapy education, medical education, and spine specialist fellowship led her to the South Bay, where she also discovered some local passions, surfing and boating.

Common Spine Conditions

Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)

Degenerative Disc Disease is a general term for the condition in which a damaged vertebral disc causes chronic pain – either low back pain (and/or leg pain, sciatica) in the lumbar spine or neck pain (and/or arm pain) in the cervical spine.

Herniated or Bulging Disc

A herniated disc is a condition in which the annulus fibrosus (outer portion) of the vertebral disc is torn, enabling the nucleus (inner portion) to herniate or extrude through the fibers. The herniated material can compress the nerves around the disc and create pain that can radiate through the back and sometimes down the arms (if the herniation is in the cervical spine) and legs (if the herniation is in the lumbar spine).

Arthritis of the Spine

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions of people around the world. It’s sometimes known as “wear and tear” arthritis as it worsens with time and age. Osteoarthritis can affect any joint in your body, including the spine.

Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a disorder that is caused by a narrowing of the spinal canal. This narrowing happens as a result of the degeneration of both the facet joints and the intervertebral discs. In this condition, bone spurs grow into the spinal canal.

Spondylolisthesis

Spondylolisthesis occurs when one vertebra slips forward onto the vertebrae below it. This produces both a gradual deformity of the lower spine and also a narrowing of the vertebral canal.

Compression Fracture

A compression fracture is typically caused by a loss of bone mass (osteoporosis) that occurs as part of aging. A fall, cough, or lifting of a heavy object may cause a fracture of the back bones.

Stress Fracture, Pars Stress Fracture

Spinal fractures occur when the bones in your spine, called vertebrae, break and collapse. They can happen due to trauma or injury, such as experiencing a bad fall or car accident. Or, spinal fractures may be caused by simple movements like coughing or sneezing if your vertebrae have become weak and brittle from osteoporosis or cancer. Every year more than a million people suffer from this kind of spinal fracture; vertebral compression fractures are the most common type.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is not a disease—it is a descriptive term. It refers to an abnormal side-to-side (lateral) curve in the spinal column.
